National PTA 2019 Reflections Program

PTSA Reflections Chair: Krista Thornton
Picture

Brockport Central PTSA is once again participating in National PTA’s Reflections Program.

The National PTA developed the Reflections Program in 1969 to interest children, parents, teachers, and communities in the arts. Since then, thousands of students have participated in this program each year and have enjoyed the benefits of having their creative talents recognized and self-esteem developed.

What is this year’s theme?  The theme for the 2019-2020 is "Look Within"

Who may participate?  Students of Ginther, Barclay, and Hill schools.

What categories of art may be submitted?  Literature, Visual Arts, and Photography.

How many submissions is each student allowed?  Each student may submit one entry in Literature, and/or one entry in Visual Arts, and/or one entry in Photography, for a maximum of three entries.

How is an entry submitted?  Entries can be dropped off in any of the three school offices (via backpack, mail or in person) and should be clearly labeled “PTSA Reflections” with the student’s name, teacher, and phone number. If desired, contact the chair to give it to her directly. It is recommended that the piece be placed in a larger envelope if it is to be transported by backpack mail.

Do I need to do anything else?  A submission form is needed for each entry.  You can download the form below. Please make sure to drop this off with your artwork. There will also be extras in the offices if needed and must
be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

What is the submission deadline?  Friday, November 8, 2019, 3:30pm

Who can create the entry?   Each entry must be the original work of one student. Parents, friends, and teachers may provide materials necessary to complete the project, but may not assist the student in any fashion. Students will be entered according to their grade level unless parents opt to enter them in the special artist division.

What happens to all the submissions? All entries will be judged on creative merit and more importantly, interpretation of the theme. All students will be recognized at a Reflections Reception, TBA. Two finalist in each division (K-2, 3-5, and Special Artist), from each of the three art categories, will then continue on to regional level judging, for a total of six advancing.

Who do I contact with questions?  Contact Krista Thornton at Krista.Thornton@bcs1.org for more info!
(Brockport is only participating in Literature, Visual Arts and Photography)
