OMS Locker Clean Out

Clean lined paper that was reclaimed.  Teachers will stock their shelves for next year!
Every June, the Green Team heads up the Locker Clean Out at the Oliver Middle School.  Volunteers get together and work with students as they clean out their lockers at the end of the year.  Instead of tossing out school supplies the student no longer wants, the Green Team steps in with a quick lesson on reusing, reducing and recycling.  The students are encouraged to bring all useable materials home to be reused next year.  Items they are not going to take home we help them sort so they can be reused in the school or recycled if they are not able to be reused. Many stacks of paper, binders, folders and more have been saved from the trash bin!

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
Strive to be waste-free.
Did you know that a person creates an average of 4.5 lbs of trash per day?  Or that the average elementary school sutdent will generate 67 pounds of trash each school year if using disposable lunch packing supplies?  There are many benefits to packing a waste-free lunch!  Besides saving money, you can save money on food by evaluating what your child brings home each day.  Teach your child to pack up uneaten items and have a conversation at home about what is left.  Do they not like it?  Did they run out of time?  Seeing what is left can help you better plan amount and variety for the next day.
